Pulmonary Rehab

Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) includes asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis that can be debilitating and even life-threatening during cold and flu season. Other chronic lung conditions, including Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, and Pulmonary Hypertension may also be eligible.

At Salina Regional Health Center, our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs provide education and exercise training specifically tailored to those with a pulmonary diagnosis. The goal is to improve strength, lung function and reduce the risk of illness that could lead to hospitalization.

Our expert staff:

  • educate patients about their disease
  • offer breathing retraining instruction
  • discuss medications and Oxygen use and show strategies to decrease the chances of infections
  • begin a regular exercise program

Participants are encouraged to start an exercise program with Salina Regional so their breathing function can be closely monitored and exercise regimens can be developed specifically for each individual's abilities. Sessions are twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday for 12-18 weeks.

Those who participate in the program find with exercise, they physically get stronger and are able to do more at home. They also become more attuned to their own illness, which helps them recognize early signs of illness and prevent severe lung infections.

Many continue in the maintenance program to manage their chronic health condition.
